Position: Nursery Worker

Nursery workers at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church provide for the physical, emotional, and intellectual stimulation and safety of our parish children ages six weeks old through fifth grade in our church nursery and child-focused programs. This ministry’s responsibilities include playing with the child/children or directing their play, reading to them, praying with each child, exhibiting Christ-like patience and love. The nursery worker team is supervised and works in conjunction with our Nursery Director & Special Needs Coordinator.

Nursery Worker Job Details:

The Nursery Worker job serves on a team of six to eight people. Typical work is on Sunday mornings for four hours and once a month for Parents’ Night Out for 5 hours (3rd Friday night of each month).

 

Nursery workers will be presented with opportunities for additional hours that fit their schedule to work other church events with childcare. These dates and times will be presented in advance, and are scheduled by choice and availability. You will receive a 6-month calendar showing the dates required/ times of the events needed. May be called by regular nursery workers to substitute if they are unable to work a normally scheduled day.

Hourly Rate: $12 starting pay per hour with yearly job evaluations, potential pay rises occur at that time

The nursery team is comprised of Regular Nursery Workers , Substitute Nursery Workers and Extra Nursery Workers .

Regular Nursery Worker

· 5 Sunday mornings on (about 4-5 hours) and 1 Sunday off

· 1 Friday night per month (approximately 5 hours for Parents Night Out held the 3rd Friday of each month)

Substitute Nursery Worker

· Works every other Sunday, minimum of two Sunday mornings per month at around 4-5 hours each Sunday.

· One Friday night per month (approximately 5 hours for Parents Night Out)

Extra Nursery Worker

· One Friday night per month (approximately 5 hours for Parents Night Out)

 

Qualifications

1. Must be at least 16 years of age

2. Be of good moral character

3. Knowledge of the age-appropriate needs for children ages 0-10 as well as children with special needs.

4. Stability of physical, mental, and emotional health.

5. Ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities/ characteristics common to children ages six week – fifth grade

6. Willingness to submit to background check and complete Church online training modules

7. Must demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with co-workers as well as follow directions from the Nursery Director

8. Must read and sign the agreement to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Nursery Staff Guidelines

9. Physically able to lift 30 lbs.

 

Essential Duties include but are not limited to;

· Maintain current CPR Training for infants and children. Paid training and certification through St. Paul’s.

· Greet each child and calls him/her by name when dropped off by parent(s)/guardians

· Communicate needs (special instructions from parents, snacks, supplies, etc.) to coworkers and Nursey Director

· Arrive on time to the nursery, at least 15 minutes prior to the service or special event for which they are scheduled. Stays until all children are secured with a responsible adult.

· Clean and disinfect for a hygienic nursery environment

o toys played with each Sunday after service or nursery program is complete

o diaper changing station after each diaper change

· Maintain good handwashing and good hygiene practices after diaper changes, assisting children with runny noses, or any other reason that might spread germs.

· Engage children in organized activities while staying in the nursery, such as age-appropriate songs, stories, crafts, games, movies, etc.

· Ensure safety of the nursery environment such as cleaning products and medications stored out of reach of children; outlet covers on electrical covers; being aware of allergens and cross contamination, etc.

· Other duties as assigned

 

Miscellaneous

· Dependability is essential; tardiness and unscheduled absences may result in termination of employment.

· Information shared by families regarding their children or learned while working in the nursery is confidential and should be treated with the utmost care and integrity.

· While working with the children of St. Paul’s it is important that they are the focus and that their privacy is respected. Therefore, we ask that cell phone use is minimized and that no pictures are take of the children and shared.

· There will be a three-month probationary period.
