The Data Center Technician provides a working level of data center knowledge and is responsible for the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the data center electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety systems. The Data Center Technician maintains and follows the processes that maximize customer uptime in the most cost-effective way. Ensures that data center problems are identified and repaired quickly, that contractors deliver quality services, and that internal customer demands are met. Essential duties include developing creative approaches to minimize operational costs, improve efficiency, and implement new strategies. Responsibilities cover mechanical systems such as chilled water systems, HVAC units, and humidification systems; electrical systems including power distribution from Utility/Generator main switchgear through UPS systems to customer load; and fire life safety systems including wet and pre-action sprinkler systems and detection devices. Tasks include testing electromechanical assemblies, reading blueprints and schematics, inspecting parts, installing electrical/electronic parts, operating and maintaining facility systems, analyzing systems for best practices, working with contractors and consultants, tracking preventive maintenance, and ensuring maximum operational efficiency. The role requires knowledge of NEC, NFPA standards, industrial safety practices, and hands-on experience with various mechanical and electrical systems. The position demands excellent communication skills, proficiency with MS Office, ability to work in a team, coordinate contractors, and operate various tools and equipment. Work hours are days from 6am to 6pm, with possible shifts including nights, holidays, and weekends. Education requirements include a High School Diploma, Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience, and certifications such as CPR/First Aid, NFPA70E, and OSHA forklift certification. Physical requirements include walking, standing, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and climbing ladders. Work conditions involve a data center environment with varying temperatures and noise. The job is on-site with no telecommuting allowed. Additional requirements include participation in after-hours notification protocols and wearing specific safety footwear. Compensation includes an hourly base salary of $27.80 - $41.60 with overtime eligibility, annual bonus potential, and a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, medical, dental, vision, insurance, disability, flexible spending, and 401k retirement plan.
