Job Title: Forensic Engineer
Location: Hybrid (Charleston, SC 29407)
Job Type: Full-Time, Contract
Salary: $130,000 - $190,000 per year + Quarterly Bonuses
Position Summary:
A growing forensic investigation firm is seeking a skilled Forensic Engineer to analyze failures and defects in residential and commercial structures. This role involves performing site inspections, identifying root causes of structural and system issues, and preparing detailed technical reports. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of engineering principles, building codes, and construction practices, and be comfortable providing expert testimony when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct on-site investigations of residential and commercial buildings.
Determine the cause and extent of structural failures, water intrusions, roofing issues, and construction defects.
Perform evaluations including foundation settlement, vibration analysis, subsurface investigations, and structural assessments.
Apply engineering principles and industry standards to analyze building and system failures.
Prepare objective and detailed reports outlining findings, conclusions, and remediation recommendations.
Serve as an expert witness in legal proceedings when required.
Communicate findings to a variety of stakeholders including legal teams, insurers, and property owners.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; must be eligible to obtain a South Carolina PE license within six months.
NCEES certification is a plus.
Prior experience in forensic engineering or a related field is preferred.
Strong understanding of building codes and construction methodologies.
Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
