Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Performs diagnostic x-ray (XR) procedures and computed tomography (CT) procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. Uses XR and CT technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients throughout the age continuum.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Performs all types of diagnostic XR procedures including, but not limited to, fluoroscopy, portable diagnostic, and portable fluoroscopy.
3. Performs all CT studies to include diagnostic and interventional procedures and practices radiation safety for patients, staff and self within three (3) months of hire.
4. *Uses sterile technique as required.
5. *Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and selection of technical factors, while shielding appropriately.
6. *Performs venipuncture.
7. *Competently operates all diagnostic XR equipment including but not limited to portable and stationary x-ray machines, fluoroscopy equipment including C-Arms, O-Arm, and CT equipment to support imaging systems and performs and evaluates images for technical quality.
8. *Utilizes department computer systems, picture archiving and communication system (PACS), etc., to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies.
9. *Properly cares for and performs imaging for patients of all ages while maintaining patient confidentiality.
10. *Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to ensure quality patient care.
11. *Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
12. *Participates in the departments quality improvement plan as required.
13. *Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies coordinator of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.
14. *Keeps work area properly supplied.
15. Meets on-call responsibilities and responds within the allotted time limit.
16. Assists with departmental orientation and student clinical education as directed.
17. Assists in the future planning of the XR and CT department.
18. *Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
19. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise.
20. Participates in meetings, committees, and department projects as assigned.
21. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit, including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patients growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification, and mandatory education and competencies.
2. Knowledge of positioning, use of technical factors, and radiation safety practices.
3. Knowledge of CT non-invasive and invasive procedures.
4. Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to radiography.
5. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
6. Skill in operating equipment, PACS, and other related systems.
7. Ability to react appropriately and perform work effectively under stressful and emergent situations.
8. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
9. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.
10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate from a school of radiologic technology with current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. Certification in CT preferred within 12 months of hire. Valid State of Nebraska Medical Radiographer license required.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
