About Us:

Del’s Garden Center officially opened April 1st, 1967. The community of Spencer and surrounding area became a blessing to Del and Charin and their business grew rapidly. Greenhouses and a flower shop were added and Charin became involved in growing greenhouse crops and working as a florist. A Morton Building and addition to the store happened in 1974 along with more greenhouse space in the 70s. Del’s was incorporated in 1971 and more employees were added. The Landscape Design and Build services started in 1986. Planning ahead, Del’s intends to operate the premiere Garden Center, Floral Studio, and Landscape business in Iowa.

Job Summary:

As a Landscape Designer at Del’s, you will be responsible for designing and planning outdoor spaces, including gardens, parks, lakeshores, patios, and other landscapes. You will work closely with clients, architects, and other stakeholders to develop creative and sustainable landscape solutions that meet aesthetic, functional, and environmental goals.

Key Responsibilities:

- Collaborate directly with clients to understand their vision, preferences, and budget for landscape projects.

- Conduct site analysis and assessments to evaluate conditions, existing vegetation, drainage, soil, and the neighborhood aesthetic.

- Develop design concepts and create detailed landscape plans using Dynascape, PRO Landscape, and SketchUp software and other design tools.

- Incorporate sustainable practices into designs, including water management, native plant selection, and environmentally friendly materials.

- Build an itemized quote for the project including material, equipment, and labor.

- Sell your proposal by effectively communicating design proposals to clients and builders.

- Work with construction teams to ensure designs are implemented accurately and resolve any issues that arise during installation.

- Attain any required permits and approvals for the project to be completed.

- Stay updated on industry trends, new materials, technologies, and sustainable practices in landscape design.

- Collaborate with other professionals, including architects, industry peers, and horticulturists, on interdisciplinary projects.

- Manage project timelines and budgets, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within financial constraints.

- Provide recommendations on landscape maintenance and care for clients.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Design, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Environmental Design, or a related field.

- Experience in landscape design, including projects in residential and commercial settings.

- Proficiency in design software (e.g., Dynascape, PRO Landscape, and SketchUp).

- Strong knowledge of plant materials, landscape construction techniques, and sustainable design principles.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

- Creative problem-solving abilities and a passion for design and the environment.

- Relevant certifications (e.g., Landscape Architect License, LEED accreditation) are a plus.
