The Indianapolis office of Cruser, Mitchell, Novitz, Sanchez, Gaston & Zimet, LLP is a small office practicing on the southside of Carmel. Practice areas include: Automotive & Trucking Litigation, Construction Law, Contingent Fee Litigation/Subrogation Recovery, Employment Law, Food Contamination, Governmental/Civil Rights Law, Insurance Coverage Disputes/Bad Faith Claims, Litigation, and Premises/Product/Professional Liability. The location is close to Keystone and 465 and offers convenient free parking and many food and shopping options within a 5-minute radius. You would have the opportunity to work with and learn from attorney’s with anywhere between 15 and 50 years experience in a casual setting. We wish to grow our team of attorneys to meet client requests to resolve increasing numbers of matters. We are looking for an experienced associate litigator with at least two (2) years of strong civil defense litigation experience. Specifically, we want associates that have experience with pre-complaint investigations, case analysis, drafting and responding to discovery, preparing, and arguing law and motion, taking, and defending depositions, trial preparation, and generally have the skills to develop and implement efficient strategies to resolve claims against our clients. The team members will have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the firm’s practice, including participating in trials, mediations, counseling, and advice work on a wide variety of areas. We will consider a remote employee who is in northern or southern Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, or Kentucky due to our diverse client locations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
  • Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions, and briefs in support of defense strategies.
  • Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice, and other services to clients and claims on legal and factual issues.
  • Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures.
  • Responsible for the prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases.
  • Assist in preparing and presenting witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial and administrative hearings, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolutions.

We are looking for a candidate with :

  • Bachelor's degree with J.D., and admission to the Indiana State Bar required
  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience in insurance defense or related setting
  • Preference to those managing their own cases
  • Litigation experience required
  • Strong writing skills
  • Excellent work ethic

Hours and Location

We offer flexible work hours (flexible start and end times). We do not require employees to work on weekends barring trial prep. You can flex your hours around needed time off and vacations as long as minimum 450 billable hours are met quarterly (1800 annually). Situational telework approved to work around personal appointments. You will be required to periodically travel throughout the state for mediations, settlements, investigations, and court appearances.

Remote Employee

We will consider a remote employee who is in northern or southern Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, or Kentucky due to our diverse client locations. You must be barred in Indiana (second license in MI, KY or IL is a bonus). This individual MUST be experienced and able to manage their own cases/workload. You will be expected to travel to our Indianapolis office quarterly for case conference meetings, trial prep, or any special situations.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is commensurate with experience as small to medium firms in the Indianapolis area. Averages for Indiana are 90-130K depending on years of practice (with less than 5 years experience). Pay is on a set scale based on experience/years of practice and billable hours (starting at 1800 billable hours annually). Eight paid holidays plus one float federal holiday. Non-billable hours average 100-250 per year depending on cases, projects, memberships, and conference attendance. One paid conference attendance per year. Multiple benefit plan options to choose from including medical, dental, vision, and 401k.
