Job Title

Transports patients safely and efficiently throughout the facility. Participates in department performance improvement activities. Adapts willingly to changing departmental demands and effectively executes new and unexpected tasks.

Minimum Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: No previous experience required.

Other Credentials: AHA Heartsaver AED

Knowledge and Skills:

Special Training: No previous training required.

If set to YES, then this position has the authority (delegated) to hire, terminate, discipline, promote or effectively recommend such to manager.

Essential Functions

1. Verifies transport information from escort dispatcher to effectively plan route and keeps log of travel activities.
2. Transports patients as requested in a timely fashion.
3. Identifies patient by checking identity information and medical charts to ensure patient has been brought to the correct area of the hospital.
4. Communicates effectively to the patient the purpose and method of transfer using transfer equipment.
5. Utilizes proper transfer techniques to ensure patient safety following CH guidelines and procedures.
6. Transfers medication in tampered-proof bag when applicable.
7. Self-tests transport equipment to ensure safe handling and proper function. Removes faulty or defective equipment from service.
8. Communicates and expediently notifies dispatching unit of any delays in transport, damaged equipment, or patient problems and concerns.
9. Identifies where and how escort function can be improved and makes recommendations for change.
10. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Frequent physical demands include: Bending, Reaching forward. Occasional physical demands include: Sitting, Climbing (e.g., stairs or ladders), Carry objects, Twisting, Wrist position deviation. Continuous physical demands include: Standing, Walking, Push/Pull Lifting Floor to Waist 35 lbs. Lifting Waist Level and Above 25 lbs. Sensory Requirements include: Accurate Near Vision, Accurate Far Vision, Color Discrimination, Minimal Depth Perception, Accurate Hearing.

Anticipated Occupational Exposure Risks Include the following: Bloodborne Pathogens, Chemical, Airborne Communicable Disease, Uneven Surfaces or Elevations, Extreme Noise Levels, Dust/Particulate Matter.
