Job Description:
We are seeking a qualified Sign Language Interpreter to join our team in California. This position involves providing accurate and effective interpretation services to facilitate communication between individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and those who can hear.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa in various settings. ASL based interpreting
State Certification Requirements:
To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following California State certification requirements for American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters.
Educational Requirements:
Certification:
Possession of a valid certification from a recognized accrediting body, such as the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or the National Association of the Deaf (NAD).
Alternatively, candidates may hold a Provisional Deaf Interpreter Credential (PDIC) from the California State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), with the requirement to obtain full certification within a specified timeframe.
Experience:
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, or a related field.
Additional certifications or specialized training in areas such as legal or medical interpreting.
