The City of Torrance is recruiting for a STAGE MANAGER to join the Cultural Arts Center Theater Team! The Department This position is located in the Department of General Services. The Department provides quality services that support City departments in a manner which enables them to carry out their community missions and provide these services in a cost-effective and efficient manner which best serves the operational needs of City departments and the community. The Division The Torrance Cultural Arts Center includes various facilities such as the Toyota Meeting Hall, the Ken Miller Auditorium, and the Torrance Art Museum. Additionally, the Center houses dance studios, a ceramics facility, and art-making studios, managed by the City's General Services Department. The Position Under direction from the Theater Technical Director, the Stage Manager acts as Stage Supervisor and as a point of contact for rental clients during events. This position delegates and oversees duties of Theater Technicians, and assumes responsibility for the set-up, operation, and strike of all staging and related technical equipment for successful rental events. The Stage Manager maintains skills and up-to-date knowledge of theater equipment, including lighting, sound, and rigging. They perform maintenance and repair work of all production lighting systems and act as an advisor to Torrance Cultural Arts Center staff on technical theater-related items. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: A Bachelor’s degree in technical theater or a related field, and three years of experience in technical production in a large arts complex, including experience in a lead or supervisory capacity. Successful candidates will possess the following: Supervisory Skills: hiring, training, counseling, and disciplining. Public Contact/Interpersonal Skills: renter relations/marketing, and City employee and official interaction. Theater Technical Skills: Modern lighting and sound equipment appropriate for theater use and set construction. A systems-rigging certification is preferred. Performance of the essential duties of this position includes the following physical demands and/or working conditions: The essential duties may require the ability to stoop; to reach; to stand; to walk and sit for extended periods; to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds; and to climb stairs and ladders. Essential duties are primarily performed in a dynamic theatre environment. Duties may include operations in other Torrance Cultural Arts Center facilities and/or off-site locations.
