The General Manager leads a single Pet Care Center, driving top-line sales growth while ensuring the welfare, health, and proper care of all animals. Position Responsibilities The GM regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment to create the best possible partner, guest, and pet experience. Ensure quick and courteous service, determine guests’ needs, and share product knowledge to enable appropriate solutions. Responsible for partner performance management in the Pet Care Center. Demonstrate a continuous improvement and growth mindset. Performance Meet or exceed goals related to total Pet Care Center sales, profitability, and operational excellence. Schedule and adjust labor hours and payroll to maximize productivity and meet sales and payroll goals. Review financial and operational reporting regularly, including visits and audits. Identify underperforming metrics and develop strategies leveraging Petco programs to improve and grow the business. Market the Pet Care Center and oversee on-site and community events and promotions. Process Ensure the health, welfare, handling of all animals, and proper merchandising according to inventory levels and visual standards. Complete accounting, inventory management, and payroll paperwork timely; manage expenses within budgeted levels. Maintain the Pet Care Center’s appearance and safety procedures. Protect pets and merchandise with proper loss prevention and safety protocols. Open/close the Pet Care Center in accordance with safety and security policies. Maintain a professional image, appearance, and cleanliness of the Center. Other Essential Duties Model inspiring leadership and selling behaviors; motivate teams in alignment with company goals. Promote safety by observing and implementing policies and procedures; partner safety is the top priority. Foster a collaborative culture that encourages ideas to improve efficiency and guest engagement. Prioritize talent development and maintain a strong talent bench with opportunities for growth. Engage and be present; represent Petco’s brand with high standards in a positive work environment. Education And Experience High school diploma or equivalent; proficiency in business/finance, analysis, problem solving, and people development. Excellent communication and computer skills. Three or more years of management experience; retail management experience preferred. Working knowledge of general business practices and strong organizational skills. Strong customer service orientation and ability to train others; genuine interest in animals is required. Must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle. Completion of PETCO Management Achievement Program modules may be required for internal candidates. Supervisory Responsibility The General Manager directly supervises a team of leaders and all Pet Care Center partners. Work Environment Most duties are indoors; occasional stocking, customer carry-outs, and deposits may occur. The role may involve bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and standing for long periods. A limited amount of travel may be required. Contacts Regular interaction with customers, partners, and other departments; coordination with distribution centers and support centers as needed.
