Overview The Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream seeks an Associate Director of Exhibit AV to support one of the most technically ambitious museum environments in the world. The Associate Director will work closely with the Director of Exhibit AV to ensure the seamless performance of immersive digital experiences across a six-floor museum campus in downtown Washington, D.C. This position is ideal for a systems thinker who is a hands-on problem solver and thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. The Milken Center is home to interactive exhibits built using cutting-edge platforms, including Unity, TouchDesigner, and web-based technologies, all integrated across a diverse media infrastructure—LED walls, rack-mounted systems, AI-powered docents, and custom software experiences. The Associate Director will play a key role in maintaining near-zero downtime and supporting a team of technologists, artists, and engineers in realizing the Center’s vision. Responsibilities The Associate Director will work on-site with the Director of Exhibit AV to: Oversee and maintain performance of exhibit AV systems across six floors, ensuring daily readiness and minimal downtime. Diagnose and resolve technical issues involving hardware, software, signal path, and system integration. Monitor performance and maintenance of high-profile installations, including: An immersive LED holodeck environment A 25-foot artificial tree hung with over 900 OLED displays Multi-story LED display walls and interactive environments Supervise and support exhibit technicians and production staff in executing routine maintenance, emergency fixes, and shift coverage. Coordinate with internal and external partners to implement upgrades, patches, and exhibit refreshes. Manage inventories of AV tools, spare parts, and diagnostic equipment. Maintain and troubleshoot extenders (copper/fiber), rack infrastructure, USB-based interaction hardware, and CMS interfaces. Anticipate failure points, document workflows, and support proactive planning of repairs or replacements. Duties as assigned. Qualifications Strong experience with AV systems in museum, live event, or public installation contexts. Working knowledge of modern display technologies, signal routing, and rack-based system configuration. Confidence in diagnosing complex system issues—from OS-level problems to display or input failures. Familiarity with Qsys and Dante systems, ISAAC content management, and Javascript debugging is highly desirable. A BA/BS is required; Advanced Degree preferred, with relevant experience being accepted as substitution. CTS, Dante, and Qsys certifications are welcome but not required. A demonstrated ability to lead calmly, present professionally, and problem-solve under pressure. Physical capability to lift up to 30 lbs, crawl under exhibit structures, and climb ladders to access hardware. A professional, guest-friendly demeanor suited to a high-profile public institution. Work Environment and Schedule This is a full-time, on-site position located in Washington, D.C. (Federal City campus) . The position requires availability on weekends and during museum public hours as part of a rotating team schedule. No relocation budget is available.
